By default, any group participant can change the subject, icon, description or send messages. However, a group admin can change the group settings to allow only admins to edit the group info or send messages.
Change the group settings
To change the group settings for editing group info:
Open the WhatsApp group chat, then tap the group subject.
Alternatively, tap and hold the group in the CHATS tab. Then tap More options > Group info.
Tap Group settings > Edit group info.
Choose to allow All participants or Only admins to edit the group info.
Tap OK.
To change the group settings for sending messages:
Open the WhatsApp group chat, then tap the group subject.
Alternatively, tap and hold the group in the CHATS tab. Then tap More options > Group info.
Tap Group settings > Send messages.
Choose to allow All participants or Only admins to send messages.
Tap OK.
Note: Participants can directly contact an admin by tapping admins in the group, then tapping the name of the admin they'd like to message.
Change the group subject
To change the subject:
Open the WhatsApp group chat, then tap the group subject.
Alternatively, tap and hold the group in the CHATS tab. Then tap More options > Group info.
Tap Edit next to the group icon and subject.
Enter a new subject, then tap OK.
The subject limit is 25 characters.
You can add emoji to your subject by tapping Emoji.
Change the group icon
To change the icon:
Open the WhatsApp group chat, then tap the group subject.
Alternatively, tap and hold the group in the CHATS tab. Then tap More options > Group info.
Tap the group icon > Edit.
Choose to use your Gallery, Camera or Search Web to add a new image or you can Remove icon.
Change the group description
To change the description:
Open the WhatsApp group chat, then tap the group subject.
Alternatively, tap and hold the group in the CHATS tab. Then tap More options > Group info.
