Voice Calling lets you call your contacts using WhatsApp for free, even if they’re in another country. Voice calling uses your phone’s Internet connection rather than your cellular plan’s voice minutes. Data charges may apply. Currently, voice calling is available on iPhones running iOS 7+.

Note: You can’t access emergency service numbers through WhatsApp (e.g. 911 in the United States). To make emergency calls, you must make alternative communication arrangements.

To place a voice call:

1. Open the chat with the contact you want to voice call.
2. Tap Voice Call .

Receiving a voice call

If your phone is locked, you'll see an incoming WhatsApp Audio... screen when someone voice calls you, where you can:

• slide to answer by swiping the blue arrow button to the right.
• Tap Remind Me and select if you want to be reminded When I leave or In 1 hour.
• Decline the call by pressing the iPhone side button twice.

If your phone is unlocked, you'll see an incoming WhatsApp Audio... screen when someone voice calls you, where you can:

• Tap the blue check button to Accept .
• Tap Decline .
• Tap Remind Me and select if you want to be reminded When I leave or In 1 hour.
• Tap Message to decline the call with a quick message.

Switching between voice and video calls

To switch from a voice call to a video call:

1. While on the voice call, tap video call .
2. The contact you're voice calling will see a request to switch to a video call and can accept or decline the switch.

To switch from a video call to a voice call:

1. While on the video call, tap Video Off , which will notify the contact you're video calling.
2. Once the contact turns their video off, the call will be switched to a voice call.

Making a group voice call

Group Calling allows up to four participants to voice call each other using WhatsApp.

To make a group voice call from a group:

1. Go to the group you want to voice call.
2. Tap New Call .
3. Search for or select the contacts you want to add to the call.
4. Tap Voice Call .

To make a group voice call from the Calls tab:

1. Go to the Calls tab .
2. Tap New Call > New Group Call .
3. Search for or select the contacts you want to add to the call.
4. Tap Voice Call .

To make a group voice call from an individual chat:

1. Open the chat with one of the contacts you want to voice call.
2. Tap Voice Call .
3. Once the contact accepts the call, tap Add Participant .
4. Search for or select another contact you want to add to the call.
5. Tap Add.

Note:

• Make sure you and your contacts have strong Internet connections when placing or receiving group voice calls. The quality of the voice call will depend on the contact with the weakest connection.
• When you receive a group voice call, the incoming WhatsApp Audio... screen will show the participants currently on the call, and the first contact listed will be the participant that added you.
• During a group voice call, you won't be able to switch the call to a video call.
• You can't remove a contact during a group voice call. The contact would need to hang up their phone to disconnect from the call.
• Group voice call history will appear in the Calls tab . You can tap the call history to view the individual contacts from the call.
• While it's possible to be in a group voice call with someone you've blocked, you can't add a contact that you've blocked to the call or a contact that has blocked you.
