What is DIT.WhatsApp.Net?

Privacy is a part of our DNA at WhatsApp. Your personal conversations are protected by end-to-end encryption, which means no one outside of your chats, not even WhatsApp, can read or listen to them. We work hard to limit the information we collect to operate a safe and reliable global service.

De-identified Telemetry (DIT) is a system that we are testing to gather information about the health, reliability and performance of our service, so we can make sure WhatsApp is functioning properly for over two billion users. This information is not associated with our users or their phone numbers, hence why it is called DIT.

Data gathered from DIT is associated with randomized, rotating identifiers so that we know the data we receive is authentic, but is also not linked to individual users. It is transmitted directly from an app to our servers through an encrypted connection at dit.whatsapp.net/deidentifiedtelemetry and is not shared with Facebook. Our goal with DIT is to enable us to understand, for instance, how many people are using outdated software, without connecting that information to individual users.

More information about it can be found in our Engineering Blog or in a white paper that describes how this privacy preserving technology works.
