By default, photos and videos you receive in WhatsApp will automatically be saved in your phone's Photos app.
To disable media from saving in your Photos app, go to WhatsApp > more > settings > chats and calls > Save incoming media. If you disable Save incoming media, your media files will only be available in your WhatsApp chats. These files will be removed when you reinstall WhatsApp and you will not be able to transfer them to a new device if needed.
After the media has been downloaded:
- Your pictures and videos are automatically saved in the WhatsApp folder of your phone's Photos app. If you have an SD card, you can choose to store the media on your SD card by going to your phone's settings > system > storage sense (storage for Windows 10 Mobile).
- You may access your Voice Messages and audio files by using a file manager. In the file manager app, navigate to your SD card or Phone > Pictures > WhatsApp. On Windows Phone 8.0 it is not possible to save audio files, you can only access them within the chat.
- For Windows Phone 7, your pictures are automatically saved in the Saved Pictures folder in your albums. Videos cannot be saved on your device.
