Chatting with businesses

To distinguish between a personal account and a business account, you can check your contact's profile to see which type of account they have. If they have a business account, you'll see one of the following listed in the profile:

  • Official business account: WhatsApp has determined that an authentic brand owns this account. An "Official business account" has a green checkmark badge in its profile and next to the header in the chat thread. The name of the business is visible even if you haven't added the business to your address book.
  • Business account: A business has created an account using any of the WhatsApp Business tools but WhatsApp hasn't determined whether the account is authentic. An account is listed as a "Business account" by default.

Note: If you see a business account which is labeled as “Verified” or “Confirmed”, then please update the app to see the latest business account types.

We also provide you with the tools you need to control your experience with businesses. You can block business accounts and report them at any time, right within the chat (open the chat > tap More options > Report or Block).

Note: An "Official business account" does not indicate that WhatsApp endorses this business.
