By default, any of the group participants can change the subject, icon, description or send messages. However, a group admin can change the group settings to allow only admins to edit the group info or send messages.

Changing the group settings

To change the group settings for editing group info:

1. Go to the group in WhatsApp, then tap the subject of the group.
   • Alternatively, swipe the group to the left in the Chats tab. Then tap More > Group Info.
2. Tap Group Settings > Edit Group Info .
3. Choose to allow All Participants or Only Admins to edit the group info.

To change the group settings for sending messages:

1. Go to the group in WhatsApp, then tap the subject of the group.
   • Alternatively, swipe the group to the left in the Chats tab. Then tap More > Group Info.
2. Tap Group Settings > Send Messages .
3. Choose to allow All Participants or Only Admins to send messages.

Note: Participants can directly contact an admin by tapping admins in the group, then tapping the name of the admin they'd like to message.

Changing the group subject

To change the subject:

1. Go to the group in WhatsApp, then tap the subject of the group.
   • Alternatively, swipe the group to the left in the Chats tab. Then tap More > Group Info.
2. Tap the group subject.
3. Enter a new subject, then tap Save.
   • The subject limit is 25 characters.

Changing the group icon

To change the icon:

1. Go to the group in WhatsApp, then tap the subject of the group.
   • Alternatively, swipe the group to the left in the Chats tab. Then tap More > Group Info.
2. Tap Camera .
3. Choose to Reset Icon, Take Photo, Choose Photo or Search Web for a new image.

Changing the group description

To change the description:

1. Go to the group in WhatsApp, then tap the subject of the group.
   • Alternatively, swipe the group to the left in the Chats tab. Then tap More > Group Info.
2. Tap the group description.
3. Enter a new description, then tap Save.

Muting group notifications

You can mute group notifications for a specified period of time. You'll still receive messages sent to the group, but your phone won't vibrate or make noise when they're received.

To mute group notifications:

1. Go to the group in WhatsApp, then tap the subject of the group.
   • Alternatively, swipe the group to the left in the Chats tab. Then tap More > Mute.
2. Tap Mute .
3. Select the length of time you'd like to mute notifications for.

To unmute group notifications:

1. Go to the group in WhatsApp, then tap the subject of the group.
   • Alternatively, swipe the group to the left in the Chats tab. Then tap Unmute.
2. Tap Muted .
3. Tap Unmute.
