How to exit and delete groups
You can delete a group for all group participants if you’re the group admin. Before you can delete a group you must remove all group participants, and then exit the group.
When you delete a group, you’ll no longer see the group in your chats list and the chat history will be erased from your phone. Other participants will still see the group in their chats list. However, no one will be able to send messages.
Remove group participants
- Open the WhatsApp group chat, then tap the group subject. Alternatively, tap and hold the group in the CHATS tab.
- Tap the participant’s name > Remove {participant} > OK.
Exit a group
After removing all group participants, you’ll need to exit the group.
- Open the WhatsApp group chat, then tap the group subject. Alternatively, tap and hold the group in the CHATS tab.
- Tap Exit group > EXIT.
Delete a group
After you exit a group, you have the option to delete the group.
- Open the WhatsApp group chat, then tap the group subject.
- Alternatively, tap and hold the group in the CHATS tab.
- Tap Delete group > DELETE.
- If you don't want to delete the group media from your phone, make sure Delete media in this chat or Delete media in these chats is unchecked.
