How to send video notes

Video notes on WhatsApp allow you to instantly record and share video notes that are up to 60 seconds long directly in the chat.
Send a video note
- Open the chat you'd like to send a video note to.
- Press and hold next to the text field. The timer will count down to start recording.
- You can switch between the front and back phone camera before or during your recording.
- When finished, remove your finger from . The video note will automatically be sent.
Alternatively, tap and swipe to the Video note tab. Record your video note and then tap . If your video note is less than 60 seconds long, you’ll need to tap before you can send it.
You can see if your recipients have played your video note. Press and hold your sent video note, then tap > Info. Recipients who have played your video note will appear under Played by.
Using lock mode
Lock mode allows you to record hands-free video notes.
To engage lock mode
- Open the chat you'd like to send a video note to.
- Press and hold next to the text field, then slide it up towards until the lock turns green.
- Tap to send the note.
Lock mode features
When in lock mode, you can:
- Flip the camera: Tap to switch between the selfie and back-facing camera. Recordings always start from the selfie camera.
- Stop: Tap to stop your recording.
- Cancel: Tap to cancel your recording.
- Send: Tap to send it to the chat.
Reply to a video note
- Open the chat and tap the video note you want to respond to.
- Press and hold the video note, then tap .
Alternatively, if you want to reply with your own video note, you can tap next to the video note preview.
