About how WhatsApp recommends channels
When you explore or search for channels, we recommend channels based on things like:
- Channel information including:
- Channel updates
- Number of followers
- Reactions to channel updates
- Frequency of channel updates
- Similarity of content (channel name, channel info and channel updates) among popular channels
- Your general location information (e.g. country/city) and language preference.
- Device and connection information, such as your device type and app version.
- Information about your activity on channels, including:
- The types and content of channels you follow, view or interact with it.
- The searches you make on channels.
- The channels features you use and how you use them.
- Your time spent and activities on channels.
We use this information, like your channel activity, to help us recommend channels that might be more relevant to you.
As always, your personal chats and calls remain end-to-end encrypted. They aren’t used to recommend channels.
You can see the channels recommended to you by:
- iOS and Android: scrolling to the bottom of the Updates tab to view the Find channels to follow section.
- Web and Mac: scrolling to the bottom of the Channels or Updates page to view the Find channels to follow section.
Note: When you search for channels, search queries are logged to improve the search and channels experience.
