How to edit your profile

This feature is rolling out gradually and might not be available to you yet. In the meantime, keep WhatsApp updated to access new features as soon as they’re available.
We're currently fixing an issue where Avatars might not be deleted properly from your profile. If you're seeing this issue, please make sure you're using latest version of WhatsApp.
You can customize your profile by editing your profile picture, name, and about information. You can also set an avatar alongside your profile picture.

Edit your profile picture

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Tap your profile picture > Edit.
    • Tap Take photo to take a photo with your camera.
    • Tap Choose photo to select an existing photo.
    • Tap Delete photo to remove your current profile photo.

Import profile picture from Facebook or Instagram

You can import your WhatsApp profile picture from Facebook or Instagram if you choose to add your accounts to Accounts Center.
Accounts Center allows you to manage account settings and connected experiences across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Learn more about WhatsApp in Accounts Center.
To import your profile picture from Facebook or Instagram:
  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Tap your profile picture > Edit.
  3. Tap Import from Facebook or Import from Instagram.
    • If prompted, follow the instructions to add your accounts to Accounts Center.
  4. Move and resize the circle to crop the image for your profile picture.
  5. Tap Choose.

Set your avatar as your profile picture

You can use your avatar as or alongside your profile picture.
If you already created an avatar:
  1. Go to WhatsApp Settings.
  2. Tap your profile.
  3. Tap Edit.
  4. Tap Add avatar.
  5. Tap Continue.
  6. Select an avatar.
  7. Tap Save.

Use an AI-generated image for your profile photo


You might have the option to generate an AI image to use as your profile photo. Learn how in this article.
Note:
  • This feature is currently only available in limited countries and might not be available to you yet, even if other users in your country have access.
  • At this time, only prompts in English, Arabic, French, Hindi, Indonesian, Portuguese, Spanish, Tagalog, Thai, and Vietnamese are supported.

Edit your profile name

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Tap your profile picture > your name.
  3. Enter your new name.
    • The limit is 25 characters.
  4. Tap Done.
Note: Your profile name is visible to people in groups who haven’t saved your contact information.

Edit your about information

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Tap your profile picture > your name.
  3. Tap your current about message.
    • You can write a custom message or select a pre-made message.
  4. Enter your about information and tap
    Back (left chevron)

Note:
  • Your about information can’t be blank.
  • You can change your privacy settings to manage who can see your profile picture or about information. Learn how to change your privacy settings.
  • If you block a contact, that person won’t see any updates to your profile picture or about information.
