Seeing “A database error occurred on your browser”

If you're seeing this error, it could be caused by browser issues on your computer. WhatsApp Web uses your browser’s database to securely store your messages. There may be a problem with your browser's database causing device linking issues on WhatsApp Web. You can find the solutions below to resolve the issue.

Use another browser

The easiest solution is to try using another browser. Go to web.whatsapp.com on a browser from the list below.
Note: For WhatsApp Web, you must use the latest version of Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Opera, or Safari. Other browsers, such as Internet Explorer, aren’t supported.

Clear browser cache and cookies

You can also clear your browser cache and cookies, including cookies for a specific website.

On Chrome

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click More

  3. Click More tools > Clear browsing data.
  4. At the top, choose a time range.
    • To delete everything, select All time.
  5. Check the boxes next to Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files.
  6. Click Clear data.

On other browsers

If you use Safari, Firefox, or another browser, check their support website for instructions.

Reset browser settings to default

Reset your browser to the default settings by following the instructions below.

On Chrome:

Note: This process will not delete your bookmarks or saved passwords.
  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click More

    > Settings > Advanced.
    • On Chromebook, Linux, and Mac: Click Reset settings > Restore settings to their original defaults > Reset settings.
    • On Windows: Click Reset and cleanup > Reset settings to their original defaults > Reset settings.

Restart your computer

Restart your computer by turning it off and back on.
