You can change your notification settings for all calls and messages in WhatsApp Settings. Learn how to mute individual or group chat notifications in this article.
Note: If you disable or silence WhatsApp notifications from your device settings, updates made to notification settings in WhatsApp won’t override them. However, if you enable custom notifications for a chat in WhatsApp, a new notification category will be added in your device settings, with notifications enabled for that custom setting.
Manage notifications settings for all messages, groups, or calls
- Tap Settings > Notifications.
- Manage notifications settings by performing one of the following actions:
- Turn on Show Notifications under Message notifications or Group notifications to receive notifications about individual or group messages. Turn off Show Notifications if you don’t want to see these.
- Tap Sound under Message notifications or Group notifications to change the notification sound of individual or group messages. Select an alert tone, then tap Save.
- Turn on Reaction Notifications under Message notifications or Group notifications to receive notifications about reactions to messages that you send in individual or group chats. Turn off Reaction Notifications if you don’t want to see these.
- Tap In-App Notifications to manage notifications settings for notifications you receive while using WhatsApp. Select and tap None, Banners, or Alerts under Alert style. Then turn Sounds or Vibrate on or off to change these notification settings.
- Turn on Show Preview to show a preview of message text inside new message notifications. Turn off Show Preview to stop showing these.
To reset all notifications settings:
- Tap Settings > Notifications.
- Tap Reset Notification Settings > Reset.
Manage notifications for group chats
- Open a group chat.
- Tap the name of the group.
- Tap Notifications.
- Manage notification settings by performing one of the following actions:
- Tap Mute notifications under Messages or Calls to mute notifications from messages or calls.
- Tap Alert Tone under Messages to change the notification tone of messages.
