Communities
Communities on WhatsApp allow you to create a unified space for multiple groups of people using a structure that works best for you. With communities, you can create a vibrant community of like-minded individuals who share your interests and passions.
While groups are a great way to chat with people about a specific topic or interest, communities can have multiple groups, each with its own topic or interest. This makes it easier to connect with others who share similar interests or affiliations, such as your school, your neighborhood, your nonprofit, or your local club.
Starting a community
To start a community, follow these simple steps:
- Go to the Communities tab.
- Tap New community.
- Tap Get started.
Once the community is created, the community will have an announcement group by default. All members of the community are part of the announcement group, but only admins can send messages in the announcement group.
As an admin, you can reach members with important updates by sending announcements and control which groups are added to the community. As a member, you can stay connected to your community and easily organize smaller discussion groups on what matters most to you.
Communities best practices
- Use the community description to explain the purpose of your community.
- Consider your audience when deciding whether to include existing groups or create new ones.
- Use the announcement group to communicate community info with all community members.
- Set up an admin-only group for community and group admins to communicate with one another and provide mutual support.
Note: You can't currently create a community on the WhatsApp Business app.
