You can share special moments with friends and family in high definition by changing the quality settings of your photo or video. Select HD in your message media to share photos and video that enhance everyday moments or special occasions.
Note: HD media isn’t currently available for status updates or profile pictures.
Send HD media
To send HD media in a chat:
- Open an individual or group chat.
- To take a photo or video to send, tap to send. To attach an existing photo or video, tap > Gallery > select a photo or video to send.
- Tap and select Standard quality or HD quality. You can also choose to edit your media and add a caption. Note: If you share HD media using your cellular network, a Continue without WiFi? might appear. Tap Continue if you’d like to share HD media using your cellular network.
- Tap.
To set HD quality as the default:
- Open WhatsApp Settings > Storage and data > Media upload quality.
- Select HD quality.
Note: You can still send individual items in standard quality by tapping and selecting Standard quality each time you send media.
Configure auto-download settings
Photo and video download quality is based on your network conditions. To configure your auto-download settings:
- Tap Settings > Storage and data.
- In the Media auto-download section, tap When using mobile data, When connected on Wi-Fi, or When roaming.
- Check the box next to the type of media you’d like to auto-download to your device. Tap OK.
- Uncheck the box next to the type of media to disable auto-download settings. Tap OK.
- Uncheck the box next to the type of media to disable auto-download settings. Tap OK.
Note:
- Sending HD media might be faster when using WiFi instead of your cellular network.
- You can’t upgrade the quality of an existing photo you’ve sent, but you can send it again in HD quality.
