How to choose who can add groups to a community

By default, all members and admins can create new groups in a community. New groups can have up to 1,024 members.
All members and admins can also suggest existing groups.
But, community admins can adjust settings to allow only admins to add new or existing groups, and members to suggest groups.
They can also choose to allow all members to create new groups and suggest existing groups.

Choose who can add groups

  1. Open the WhatsApp community.
  2. Click Community settings.
  3. Click Who can add groups.
  4. Choose:
    • Everyone: All community members can add new groups.
    • Only community admins: Members can only suggest groups for admin approval. Only admins can add new groups.
  5. Click Confirm.

Approve or reject groups suggestions

Community admins can choose to approve or reject groups suggested by members. Groups approved by a community admin will be added to the community.
  1. Click the Communities tab.
  2. Click a community.
  3. Click Pending groups.
  4. Review and approve or reject the group suggestions.
Note:
  • Once added to a community, the group and its members will be added to the community and its Announcements group. The group’s members can then join or request to join other groups in the community.
  • The group’s members can join or request to join other groups in the community.
  • Community admins won’t be automatically added to groups created by community members.
  • Admins can add, join, manage, or remove a group from a community at any time.

Join a member added group

By default, anyone can join a member added group.
But, group admins can change this in community settings so that they need to approve new members.
Note: When groups are added to a community, the group’s existing settings still apply unless an admin changes them.
To join a member added group:
  1. Open the WhatsApp community.
  2. Click the new group under Groups you can join.
  3. Click Request to join or Join group.
You'll either be added to the group straight away, or when your request is approved. You’ll see any groups that are pending a request for you to join at the bottom of the list of community groups.
To cancel your request, click Cancel request.
