This feature is rolling out gradually and may not be available to you yet. In the meantime, we recommend keeping WhatsApp updated on your device so you can get the feature as soon as it's available.
You can limit how other users can share your messages and media outside of WhatsApp. When Advanced chat privacy is enabled for a chat, you can expect that:
- Media won’t automatically save to your device gallery.
- Messages aren’t used for AI features like mentioning @Meta AI.
- Chat exports are disabled.
You must enable Advanced chat privacy for each individual or group chat you want to apply this setting to. Once it’s turned on, Advanced chat privacy applies to all messages in the chat.
Enable or disable advanced chat privacy for individual chats
Anyone in the chat can turn this setting on or off.
- Click the chat you want to edit.
- Click
> View contact > Advanced chat privacy.
- Turn on or off Advanced chat privacy.
Enable or disable advanced chat privacy for groups
This setting applies to every member of the group. Anyone can update this setting; however, an admin can restrict this setting to admin only.
- Click the chat you want to edit.
- Click
> Group info > Group permissions.
- Turn on Edit group settings.
- Go back to the Group info page and click Advanced chat privacy.
- Turn on or off Advanced chat privacy.
Note:
Users who aren’t on the latest version of WhatsApp may still be able to share chats outside of WhatsApp, like auto-downloading media. When enabling this feature, you won’t be notified if someone in the chat isn’t on the latest version of WhatsApp. Advanced chat privacy isn’t available in chats with businesses that choose to use WhatsApp's parent company, Meta, to securely store messages and respond to customers on its behalf.
