How to mute or unmute individual or group chat notifications

You can mute individual or group chat calls and messages for a specified period of time. You'll still receive messages, but your device won't vibrate or make noise to notify you.

Mute group notifications for individual or group chats

  1. Click the chat you want to mute.
  2. Click the contact name > Mute
  3. Select the length of time you’d like to mute notifications for.
To turn notifications back on, click the muted chat. Click the contact name > Unmute.
Note: If you mute an individual or group chat on your phone, it'll also be muted on WhatsApp for Mac. All other notification settings are independent of your phone and computer and don't affect one another.
