About safety and privacy on channels for admins

Note: WhatsApp Channels has begun rolling out but isn’t available to everyone yet.

Where Channels is available, we’re rolling out new features gradually. Some features, like being able to create a channel, might not be available to you yet.
WhatsApp Channels help admins share updates and information with their followers in a way that is private and secure.
As a channel admin:
  • People see the channel, not you (unless they’re also a channel admin): Channel updates are sent from the channel, so followers and other viewers won’t see your WhatsApp profile name, picture, or your phone number. If you’re a channel owner and invite someone to be an admin, your full phone number, profile picture (depending on your privacy settings), and name is shared with the invitation.
  • Admins can see each other: To help admins work together and manage channels more easily, the owner and all admins of a channel can see each other's phone number, profile picture (depending on your privacy settings), and name. This means other admins may contact you, such as through WhatsApp private messaging.
To help keep the channels you manage secure:
  • Don’t share personal information on a channel, like your full name or phone number, or the information of other admins.
  • All admins should turn on two-step verification for their WhatsApp accounts.

Channel updates are public, and you’re responsible for them

Remember, anything you share on a channel is public and will be visible to:
  • All followers: Followers can see all channel updates shared 30 days before they followed your channel.
  • People who don’t follow the channel: Anyone can see 30 days worth of update history on the channel.
  • WhatsApp: Channel updates are reviewed against the Channels Guidelines.
Channel updates should be used to share information with followers and viewers, not as a way for admins to communicate back and forth.
As a channel admin, you’re responsible for keeping the content on your channel safe, relevant, and age-appropriate for your followers. Learn more in the Channels Guidelines.
