How to view and adjust your ad preferences in WhatsApp Status or Channels

If you’re only using WhatsApp for personal messaging, you won’t see ads. Ads will only appear in the Updates tab, in Status and Channels, away from your personal chats and calls.
Ads in WhatsApp Status and Channels are rolling out gradually and may not be available to you yet.
To make it easy for you to understand and control the ads you see on WhatsApp in Status and Channels, you can:
  • See more information on why you’re seeing a particular ad.
  • View your recent ad activity.
  • View a list of advertisers you’ve seen.
You can also hide and report ads you’ve seen.

View recent ad and advertiser history

From ad preferences, you can see all the ads and advertisers you interacted with on WhatsApp for the past 30 days. You can also:
  1. View more information about the advertiser, like their bio and website link.
  2. Choose to hide or unhide ads from them.
  3. See all the advertisers you have ever hidden.
To view recent activity:
  1. From the Updates tab, tap
    More Options (three vertical dots)
    > Ad preferences.
  2. Tap either:
    • Recent ad activity to see ads.
    • Advertisers you've seen to see particular advertisers.
  3. Tap an ad or advertiser to see more info or hide or unhide them from Status and Channels.
You can also manage your ad preferences from Settings > Account > Ad preferences for Status & Channels.
Note:
  • If you’ve added your WhatsApp account to Accounts Center, you’ll manage ad preferences in Accounts Center. Learn more below.
  • For now, ads and ad preferences can’t be managed on WhatsApp Web or other platforms. Use your primary device to adjust your ad preferences.

See why we're showing you an ad

You can get more information on why you’re seeing a particular ad, like when an advertiser wants to show their ad to people in the country that matches your device country code. We don’t show you ads based on your personal messaging. Learn more about what information is used to show ads.
To see why we’re showing you an ad:
  • Channels ads: On the promoted channel, tap the word Sponsored > Why you’re seeing this ad.
  • Status ads: From the ad, tap
    More Options (three vertical dots)
    > Why you’re seeing this ad.

View and adjust your ad preferences in Accounts Center

If you’ve added your WhatsApp account to Accounts Center, you’ll manage your ad preferences in Accounts Center. To open Accounts Center and adjust ad preferences:
  1. From WhatsApp, tap Settings > Accounts Center to open Accounts Center.
  2. From Accounts Center, find the Accounts settings section and tap Ad preferences.
For now, some Accounts Center ad settings available for other Meta Company Products aren’t available for WhatsApp. Learn more about what settings aren’t available.
