How to send voice messages

WhatsApp voice messaging allows you to instantly communicate with contacts and groups. You can use it to deliver important and time-sensitive information. All voice messages are downloaded automatically.
You can also record and share voice updates through status.
You can preview your status update before sending it, and re-record it if you need to. Then, share your update with your selected contacts. They’ll be able to listen to your update and see an active visualization of it while the audio plays.

Send a voice message
  1. Open an individual or group chat.
  2. Tap and hold the microphone
    and start speaking.
  3. Once finished, remove your finger from the microphone
    . The voice message will automatically send.
While recording a voice message, you can slide left to cancel it.
Send a longer voice message
  1. Open an individual or group chat.
  2. Tap and hold the microphone
    and start speaking.
  3. Slide up to lock hands-free recording.
You can also tap the red pause button
to pause recording or preview a draft of your message. Tap the red mic icon
to continue recording within the same voice message.
On sent voice messages you'll see:
  • A gray microphone
    for voice messages that haven’t been played by all recipients (but might have been played by some).
  • A blue microphone
    for voice messages that all recipients have played.
Record and send a voice status update
You can record and share up to 30-second voice updates.
  1. Open your Status tab.
  2. Select the text option
    .
  3. In the text composer, tap and hold the microphone
    and start speaking.
  4. Once finished, remove your finger from the microphone
    . Select the contact or group chat you want to share your update.
  5. Tap
    .
Note: On some phones, you might have to wait for a second before speaking if the beginning of your message isn't recorded.
