About updates to WhatsApp’s Business Terms

We’re updating our terms of service for business users to keep up-to-date with the laws in different countries.
These updates don’t change how we secure personal or business messages. WhatsApp protects your personal messages with end-to-end encryption, meaning no one, not even WhatsApp, can read or listen to them.
WhatsApp considers chats with businesses that use the WhatsApp Business app or manage and store customer messages themselves to be end-to-end encrypted. You can learn more about the privacy and security of messages on the WhatsApp Business Platform here.
Updates like this make it possible for you and others around the world to continue using WhatsApp to connect with customers.

Our updated terms will apply to anyone using WhatsApp Business Services, including WhatsApp Business App or WhatsApp Business Platform, starting on December 15, 2022. You’ve already agreed to these terms when you started using WhatsApp Business Services if you joined on or after September 27, 2021.

What’s changing

  • We’re making it clearer to businesses around the world how we process their data when using WhatsApp Business Services.
  • We’re updating our terms, which apply to all users globally. Certain updates allow us to keep up-to-date with regulatory requirements in the European Union, including:
    • General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) as related to the Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) for data transfers.
    • Europe Electronic Communication Code (EECC).
    • European Union ePrivacy and Platform-to-Business regulations.
  • We’re clarifying how businesses may continue to work with service providers that engage with WhatsApp Business Services, such as Business Solution Providers (BSPs). Learn more about BSPs here.

What’s staying the same

  • These updates only apply to people using WhatsApp Business Services. Nothing changes about the privacy or security of your personal conversations through WhatsApp.
  • These updates won’t change the WhatsApp Business Services features available today.
  • These updates won't expand our ability to share data with WhatsApp’s parent company, Meta.
