How to create and share status updates

We’re building and testing out new features, like Status Mentions, and they may not be available to you yet. In the meantime, we recommend keeping WhatsApp updated on your device so you can get the feature as soon as it's available.
You can use WhatsApp Status to share photos and videos that disappear after 24 hours.
You can choose who can see your status by adding them to your status audience or mentioning them.

Share text and voice status updates

  1. Tap Updates >
    edit

  2. Type a text status or tap and hold
    record
    to record a voice status.
    • Tap
      text
      to change the font and text color.
    • Tap
      change color
      to change the background color.
    • Tap
      emoji
      to add an emoji.
    • Tap Status (Contacts) to customize your audience.
  3. Tap
    send
    to share your status.
Note: You can’t mention people in a text or voice status for now.

Share photo status updates

  1. Tap Updates >
    camera
    .
  2. Take a photo or tap
    gallery
    to select a photo from your device.
    • Tap Add a caption… to caption your photo.
    • Tap
      text
      to add text. You can change the color, font, size, layout, and add a background.
    • Tap
      stickers
      to add stickers or emojis.
    • Tap
      draw
      to draw. You can adjust the color and line size.
    • Tap @ to privately mention up to 5 people in your status. This notifies them about your status, and they can reshare the content of your status to their audience.
    • Tap
      crope rotate
      to crop and rotate.
    • Tap Status (Contacts) in the bottom left to customize your audience.
  3. Tap
    send
    to share your status.
Alternatively, go to Chats and tap

Note:
  • HD media isn’t supported for status updates.
  • The quality of media, such as images, GIFs, videos, and pictures uploaded into WhatsApp Status may be lower than the original version.
  • Upload high quality images to status to prevent low quality photos.

Share video status updates

  1. Tap Updates >
    camera
    > Video.
  2. Record a video or tap
    gallery
    to select a video from your device.
    • Tap Add a caption… to caption your video.
    • Tap
      text
      to add text. You can change the color, font, size, layout, and add a background.
    • Tap
      stickers
      to add stickers or emojis.
    • Tap
      draw
      to draw on your video. You can adjust the color and line size.
    • Tap GIF to turn your video into a GIF.
    • Tap Status (Contacts) on the bottom left to customize your audience.
    • Tap @ to privately mention up to 5 people in your status. This notifies them about your status, and they can reshare the content of your status to their audience.
  3. Tap
    send
    to share your status.

> Video
Note:
  • WhatsApp supports 3GP and MPEG-4 video formats.
  • Videos can be up to 60 seconds long.

See status views and likes

  1. Tap Updates > My status.
  2. Tap the status >
    views
    .
Contacts who like your status will be marked with a green heart.
