You can use WhatsApp Status to share photos and videos that disappear after 24 hours.
You can choose who can see your status by adding them to your status audience or mentioning a specific person or group. Learn more about status mentions or status privacy.
- Tap Updates > .
- Type a text status or tap and hold to record a voice status.
- Tap to change the font and text color.
- Tap to change the background color.
- Tap to add an emoji.
- Tap Status (Contacts) to customize your audience.
- Tap to share your status.
Note: You can’t mention people or groups in a text or voice status for now.
- Tap Updates > .
- Take a photo or tap to select a photo from your device.
- Tap Add a caption… to caption your photo.
- Tap to add text. You can change the color, font, size, layout, and add a background.
- Tap to add stickers or emojis.
- Tap to draw. You can adjust the color and line size.
- Tap @ to add up to 5 private mentions to your status. This notifies people or groups about your status, and they can reshare the content of your status to their audience.
- Tap to crop and rotate.
- Tap Status (Contacts) in the bottom left to customize your audience.
- Tap to share your status.
Alternatively, go to Chats and tap .
Note:
- HD media isn’t supported for status updates.
- The quality of media, such as images, GIFs, videos, and pictures uploaded into WhatsApp Status may be lower than the original version.
- Upload high quality images to status to prevent low quality photos.
- Tap Updates > > Video.
- Record a video or tap to select a video from your device.
- Tap Add a caption… to caption your video.
- Tap to add text. You can change the color, font, size, layout, and add a background.
- Tap to add stickers or emojis.
- Tap to draw on your video. You can adjust the color and line size.
- Tap GIF to turn your video into a GIF.
- Tap Status (Contacts) on the bottom left to customize your audience.
- Tap @ to add up to 5 private mentions to your status. This notifies people or groups about your status, and they can reshare the content of your status to their audience.
- Tap to share your status.
Alternatively, go to Chats and tap > Video
Note:
- WhatsApp supports 3GP and MPEG-4 video formats.
- Videos can be up to 60 seconds long.

Contacts who like your status will be marked with a green heart.
