How to turn disappearing messages on or off

You can send messages that disappear on WhatsApp by turning disappearing messages on. You can choose to have messages disappear after 24 hours, 7 days, or 90 days. Once enabled, new messages sent in the chat will disappear after the duration you select. The most recent selection controls new messages in the chat. Messages sent or received before disappearing messages is enabled won’t be affected.
Enable disappearing messages
Either user can enable disappearing messages in an individual chat. Once enabled, new messages in the chat will disappear after the duration you select.
  1. Open the WhatsApp chat.
  2. Press Options > View Contact > OK.
  3. Select Disappearing Messages > EDIT.
    • If prompted, press Next > OK.
  4. Select 24 hours, 7 days, or 90 days > OK.
Disable disappearing messages
Either user can disable disappearing messages at any time. Once disabled, new messages sent in the chat will no longer disappear.
  1. Open the WhatsApp chat.
  2. Press Options > View Contact > OK.
  3. Select Disappearing Messages > EDIT.
    • If prompted, press Next > OK.
  4. Select Off > OK.
