WhatsApp uses the same internet connection as web browsing and email on your phone. If you use WhatsApp while your phone is roaming, data charges might apply.
Contact your mobile provider for more information about roaming in other countries. Charges may differ from domestic data charges.
You can check your data usage in WhatsApp in Settings. We recommend connecting to Wi-Fi whenever possible to avoid paying for data.
To see how much data you’ve used:
- Tap
- Tap Settings > Storage and data.
- Tap Network usage.
If you don’t have an international data plan, we recommend you turn off:
- Mobile data and data roaming to avoid data roaming charges. You can visit your mobile provider’s support website for instructions.
- Media auto-download over your cellular connection and roaming to avoid extra data charges.
If you use a local SIM card while traveling, you can still use WhatsApp with your home number. But if you need to re-verify your account, you can't do this on your original WhatsApp number.
To re-verify or verify a phone number, you must have the corresponding SIM card in your device, with phone or SMS service enabled.
