How to change group admin settings

By default, any group participants can send messages and change group information including, the group subject, icon, or description. However, a group admin can change group settings to allow only admins to edit group info, send messages, or approve participants.
Change group info settings
  1. Open the WhatsApp group chat, then tap the group subject.
    • Alternatively, tap and hold the group in the Chats tab. Then, tap More options
      > Group info.
  2. Tap Group settings > Edit group settings.
  3. Choose to allow All participants or Only admins to edit the group info.
  4. Tap OK.
Change group message settings
  1. Open the WhatsApp group chat, then tap the group subject.
    • Alternatively, tap and hold the group in the CHATS tab. Then, tap More options
      > Group info.
  2. Tap Group settings > Send messages.
  3. Choose to allow All participants or Only admins to send messages.
  4. Tap OK.
Participants can directly contact an admin by tapping admins in the group, then tapping the name of the admin they'd like to message.
Change group join permissions
  1. Open the WhatsApp group chat, then tap the group subject.
    • Alternatively, tap and hold the group in the Chats tab. Then, tap More options
      > Group info.
  2. Tap Group settings.
  3. Choose to turn on Approve new participants.
    • When turned on, admins must approve anyone who wants to join the group.
    • When turned off, this group is open for people to join without admin approval.
  4. Tap OK.
