You can choose who can see your status by adding them to your status audience or mentioning them in your status. By default, your status updates are shared with all your contacts.
Note:
- People you mention in your status can reshare it to their audience.
- Resharing allows their audience to see the content of your status, but doesn’t reveal your name, profile info or phone number.
- You can mention people who aren’t in your contacts.
Change your status privacy
Change your status privacy settings to share your status with all your contacts or selected contacts only.
- Click to open the status page.
- Click > Status Privacy.
- Select one of the following options:
- My Contacts: All your contacts will see your status.
- My Contacts Except…: Only contacts in your phone’s address book, except those you exclude, will see your status.
- Only Share With…: Only the contacts you select will see your status.
Note:
- Changes to your privacy settings won’t affect status updates you’ve sent already.
- If you choose to mention someone in a status, they can see your status—even if they aren’t in your status audience. This won’t change the audience settings for future status updates. Learn more about status mentions here.
- If you've disabled read receipts, you won't be able to see who's viewed your status updates. If a contact has disabled read receipts, you won't be able to see if they've viewed your status. This includes statuses where you’ve privately mentioned someone directly.
