By default, any group member can send messages or change the group name, icon, description. However, a group admin can change group settings to allow only admins to edit group info or add new members.
To find out who the admin of a group is, tap on the group name and look for Admin next to the contact’s name.
Note: You can’t hide group members’ phone numbers in a group.
Change group info
Change the group name
- Open the WhatsApp group chat, then tap the group name.
- Tap Edit.
- Enter a new name, then tap Done.
- The name limit is 100 characters.
- You can add emojis to your name by tapping .
Change the group description
- Open the WhatsApp group chat, then tap the group name.
- Tap the existing description, or tap Add group description.
- Enter a new description, then tap Save.
- You can add emojis to your name by tapping .
Change the group icon
Once added, the group icon will be displayed next to the group in your chats list.
- Open the WhatsApp group chat, then tap the group name.
- Tap Edit.
- Tap the group icon.
- Select Take photo, Choose photo, Emoji & stickers, or Search web to add a new image.
- When you've selected your image, tap Done.
