How to make changes to groups

By default, any group member can send messages or change the group name, icon, description. However, a group admin can change group settings to allow only admins to edit group info or add new members.
To find out who the admin of a group is, click the group name and look for Admin next to a member’s name.
Note: You can’t hide group members’ phone numbers in a group.

Change group info

Change the group name

  1. Open the WhatsApp group chat, then click the group name.
  2. Click
    edit
    next to the group name.
  3. Enter a new name, then click
    check mark
    to save.
    • The name limit is 100 characters.
    • You can add emojis to your name by clicking
      emoji
      .

Change the group description

  1. Open the WhatsApp group chat, then click the group name.
  2. Click
    edit
    next to the group description.
  3. Enter a new description, then click
    check mark
    to save.
    • You can add emojis to your description by clicking
      emoji
      .

Change the group icon

Once added, the group icon will be displayed next to the group in your chats list.
  1. Open the WhatsApp group chat, then click the group name.
  2. Click the group icon.
  3. Choose to View photo, Take photo, Upload photo, Emojis & Sticker, or Web search to add a new image.
  4. Click
    check mark
    to save.

Approve new members as a group admin
