How to back up to Google Drive

To use Google Drive backup, you’ll need:
  • A Google account activated on your device.
  • Google Play services installed on your device. This is used to update Google apps and apps from the Google Play Store.
  • Enough free space on your device to create the backup.
  • A strong and stable internet connection.
Set up Google Drive backups
  1. Tap
    > Settings > Chats > Chat backup > Back up to Google Drive.
  2. Select a backup frequency other than Never.
  3. Select the Google account you’d like to back up your chat history to.
    • If you don't have a Google account connected, tap Add account when prompted and enter your login credentials.
  4. Tap Back up over to choose the network you want to use for backups.
Note: Backing up over a cellular data network might result in additional data charges.
Turn on end-to-end encrypted backup
For an additional layer of security, you can turn on end-to-end encryption for your Google Drive backup.
  1. Tap
    > Settings > Chats > Chat backup > End-to-end encrypted backup.
  2. Tap TURN ON.
  3. Create a password or use a 64-digit encryption key instead.
  4. Tap Create to create your end-to-end encrypted backup.
Manually back up to Google Drive
You can also manually back up your chats to Google Drive at any time.
  1. Tap
    > Settings > Chats > Chat backup > Back up.

Change the frequency of your Google Drive backup
  1. Tap
    > Settings > Chats > Chat backup > Back up to Google Drive.
  2. Select a backup frequency.
Change the account you want to use for backups
  1. Tap
    > Settings > Chats > Chat backup > Google Account.
  2. Select the Google account you’d like to back up your chat history to.
Note: If you change your Google account, you’ll lose access to any backups saved in that account.
Change the type of network you want to use for backups
  1. Tap
    > Settings > Chats > Chat backup > Back up over.
  2. Select the type of network you want to use for backup.
