How to use live location

Live Location allows you to share your real-time location with the members of an individual or group chat. You control whether and how long to share your live location. You can also stop sharing your live location at any time. Once stopped or expired, your live location will no longer be shared.
Individuals who you shared your live location with will continue to see the location you shared as a static thumbnail image and can tap the image to see your last updated location.

Enable location permissions on your phone

  1. Go to your phone's Settings > Apps.
  2. Tap WhatsApp > Permissions > Location.
  3. Turn on WhatsApp.
    • You can select from 'Allow only while using the app,' 'Ask every time,' and 'Don't allow.'

Share your live location

  1. Open an individual or group chat.
  2. Tap
    attach
    > Location > Share live location.
  3. Select the length of time you'd like to share your live location. Your live location will stop being shared after the selected amount of time.
    • You can also enter a comment and emoji.
  4. Tap
    send
    .

Stop sharing your live location

Stop sharing your live location in an individual or group chat

  1. Open the individual or group chat.
  2. Tap Stop sharing > Stop.

Stop sharing your live location in all individual and group chats

  1. Tap
    more options
    > Settings > Privacy > Live location.
  2. Tap Stop sharing > Stop.
Note:
  • You can disable location permissions for WhatsApp at any time by going to your phone's Settings > Apps > WhatsApp > Permissions > Location > Don't allow.

Can’t find live location

If you can't find your location when using the share live location feature in WhatsApp, please contact these location providers.
