About searching WhatsApp and asking Meta AI

The search feature allows you to search for chats or ask Meta AI a question. Messages from Meta AI are generated by AI (artificial intelligence), using a technology from Meta, in response to the prompts and messages you send to the AI.
With Meta AI, you can:
  • Learn more about topics that interest you
  • Discover new things
  • Get helpful suggestions
Note:
  • This feature is currently only available in limited countries and might not be available to you yet, even if other users in your country have access.
  • At this time, only English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Hindi are supported.
When you type into the search bar, we’ll show you results from your chats and present questions you can ask Meta AI. Content from your personal chats remains on your device. Meta doesn’t connect what you type back to you personally unless you send a prompt to Meta AI. By default, topics suggested by Meta AI are generated automatically and not based on your personal information.
You can continue to use the search functionality on WhatsApp as you normally would, to search chats for messages, photos, videos, links, GIFs, audio, polls, and documents from the search bar. Choosing to interact with Meta AI doesn’t affect your personal messaging experience on WhatsApp.
Note:
  • As always, your personal messages and calls remain end-to-end encrypted, meaning not even WhatsApp or Meta can see or listen to them. To learn more about AI chats and privacy on WhatsApp, read more here.
  • When you tap a search suggestion, send, or enter on your keyboard, you’ll be asked to acknowledge the Meta AIs Terms of Service only if you’ve never interacted with Meta AI. You’ll then be taken to a chat with Meta AI to continue the interaction.
  • Once you start a chat with Meta AI, Meta may use your AI messages to improve AI quality. You can learn more about interactions with Meta AI outside of WhatsApp search in this article.
  • Some messages generated by AIs might not be accurate or appropriate. You can provide feedback to help improve these systems and responses for yourself and others. Learn how in this article.
