We’re updating our Terms of Service and Privacy Policies for users in the European Region, effective 11 April 2024.
We’re updating our Terms of Service and Privacy Policies in response to two new EU regulations, the Digital Services Act and the Digital Markets Act.
- We’re adding more information to our Terms about our guidelines and policies, which describe what is or is not allowed on WhatsApp.
- We’re including details about a new EU requirement that gives you the option to send messages from WhatsApp to supported third-party apps.
- If you choose to use Channels, we’re explaining how we apply the Channels Guidelines, how you can report content and appeal decisions, and how channels are recommended.
We’re also making changes to our international data transfer mechanisms. For users in the European Region, we will rely on the new EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
Separately, the minimum age to use WhatsApp in the European Region will be changed from 16 to 13. This update will ensure a consistent minimum age requirement for WhatsApp globally. Learn more about privacy and safety information for younger users on WhatsApp.
As always, your personal messages and calls remain end-to-end encrypted. No one else, not even WhatsApp, can read or listen to them.
