How to block high volumes of unknown messages

This feature is rolling out gradually and may not be available to you yet. In the meantime, we recommend keeping WhatsApp updated on your device so you can get the feature as soon as it's available.
As an advanced security measure, you can block high volumes of unknown messages to help protect your account and improve device performance.
If Block unknown account messages is turned on, WhatsApp will block messages from unknown accounts when they exceed a high volume. During this period, your contacts can message you as usual. Message blocking stops after message rates return to normal.
Note:
  • You might be prompted to turn this feature on if you receive a high volume of unknown messages.
  • If you turn on Block unknown account messages, you won't block all unknown messages. Learn more about how to protect against suspicious messages.

How to block unknown account messages

  1. Tap
    more options
    > Settings > Privacy.
  2. Under Advanced, turn on Block unknown account messages.
