How to clear chats

Clearing a chat allows you to clear all messages inside a chat. The chat will still be listed in the Chats tab.

Clear an individual or group chat

  1. In the Chats tab, swipe right on the individual or group chat you want to clear.
  2. Tap More > Clear chat.
  3. Tap Clear all messages.

Clear all chats at once

  1. Go to WhatsApp Settings > Chats > Clear all chats.
  2. Enter your phone number > tap Clear all chats.
Media will be deleted from your phone if you select Also delete media received in chats from the device gallery. This won’t remove you from a group or remove the chat from the Chats tab.
You can restore the chat history from a cleared chat if your latest backup occurred prior to clearing a chat. You will lose any chat history that occurred after the latest backup.
