How to reply to a message

You can use the reply feature when responding to a specific message in an individual or group chat.

Android
  1. Swipe right on the message.
  2. Enter your response and tap Send
    .
To reply privately to someone who sent a message in a group:
  1. Tap and hold the message.
  2. Tap More options
    > Reply privately.
iPhone
  1. Swipe right on the message.
  2. Enter your response and tap Send
    .
To reply privately to someone who sent a message in a group:
  1. Tap and hold the message.
  2. Tap More > Reply Privately.
WhatsApp Web and Desktop
  1. Hover over the message, then click Menu
    > Reply
  2. Enter your response and click Send (
    or
    ).
To reply privately to someone who sent a message in a group:
  1. Hover over the message, then click Menu.
  2. Click Menu
    > Reply privately.
Note: If you want to cancel a reply before sending, tap or click the "x" icon next to the message.
