About Meta AI voice experiences

You can easily have voice conversations with Meta AI. Meta AI will respond with voice and text, and you’ll see a transcript of your voice prompts in the chat. Messages from Meta AI are generated by artificial intelligence (AI), using a service from Meta, in response to the prompts you send to the AI.
Chatting with Meta AI and sending voice prompts is optional, and you can mute or end your interactions at any time. To use these features, you have to grant WhatsApp permission to access your microphone. You also have to be actively using the feature for it to access your microphone.
Note:
  • Meta AI and some experiences are currently only available in limited countries and might not be available to you yet, even if others in your country have access.
  • At this time, only English is supported.
When you chat with AI you can:
  • Ask questions
  • Receive helpful recommendations
  • Talk about interests
  • View search results
AI messages and prompts are different from personal messages and calls. When you choose to interact with Meta AI, Meta receives your messages and prompts to generate responses and improve its AI quality. You have the option to delete your chats with Meta AI. As always, your personal messages and calls are protected with end-to-end encryption, meaning no one outside of the chat, not even WhatsApp or Meta, can read, listen to, or share them.

Send a voice prompt and chat with Meta AI

You can access voice experiences with Meta AI and send a voice prompt:
  • From the Chats tab
  • In a chat with Meta AI
  • From the Calls tab
You can see when your microphone is on and can mute it at any time. You can also change to a text conversation. Learn how in this article.
You have the option to start a voice conversation when you open the chat with Meta AI by turning on Start with voice in voice settings. Start with voice is turned off by default and it’s up to you to choose how you’d like to interact with Meta AI. Learn more in this article.

Multitask with Meta AI

You can continue having a voice conversation with Meta AI whether you’re browsing WhatsApp or doing something else on your phone. You’ll see a timer and a notification on your lock screen and can end the conversation at any time. Learn more in this article.
