About adding music to WhatsApp Status

Music on Status is not yet available in some countries, including Brazil. We’re working hard to make sure it’s available to everyone as soon as possible.
Add music to your WhatsApp Status and make your status sing.

Select a song

When creating a status, you can add music by:
  • Tapping
    music
    at the top of your screen, when you’ve chosen a photo or video you want to share to your status.
  • Searching for a specific song or artist you’d like to add to your status, or picking a song from a list of popular songs in your country.
  • Tapping the arrow next to the song you’d like to use.
You can also create a status with music when viewing someone else’s status:
  • Tapping the name of the song shown at the top of a status.
  • Tapping the Add a status with music button in the menu that opens.
If you’re adding music to an image, your status will last up to 15 seconds. If you’re adding music to a video, your status will last for the duration of the video (up to 60 seconds).
Once you’ve chosen a song you’d like to add to your status, you’ll have the option to choose which part of the song you’d like to use on your status.

Learn more about an artist when viewing a status

If you like the song on someone else’s status, you can learn more about the song or artist by:
  • Tapping the name of the song shown at the top of the status.
  • Tapping the
    more
    > View Artist to learn more about the artist. Note: This may take you out of WhatsApp.

How we protect your privacy

Your status is end-to-end encrypted, so WhatsApp can't see what you share, and we don’t know which songs you add to your status.
The music that’s available to add to your status is based on licensed music provided by Meta. Meta receives anonymous information about what songs you've added to status for the sole purpose of making sure we’re able to pay music rightsholders, and does not know what songs you have chosen.
Notes:
  • Music is available for video or photo statuses. You can’t add music to text, GIF, or voice status updates.
  • To add music to your status, use an iOS or Android device. For now, you can’t add music to a status on other devices or platforms.
  • The music choices available to you in the WhatsApp Business app might be different.
  • Music availability may vary depending on the country you’re based in.
