How to create and customize events in community groups

You can find and join events in community groups to help organize gatherings and stay connected.

Create an event

  1. Tap Communities.
  2. Tap the community, then tap the group chat.
  3. Tap
    attach
    > Event.
  4. Enter an event name, time, and date.
  5. Add additional details to make your event more informative.
    • Description: Describe your event in up to 2,048 characters.
    • End time: Choose an end time for your event.
    • Location: Add a location to help guests find your event.
    • WhatsApp call link: Add a call link to host your event on a video or voice call. Call links can't be added to events more than 12 months in advance.
    • Allow guests: Turn on to allow guests to bring an additional guest.

Once created, the event will be shared in the community group. Members can tap the message to respond and view event information. They can respond Going, Going with guest, Maybe, or Not going.
Those who respond Going, Going with guest, or Maybe will receive a notification when the event begins.
You can also create events in announcements, but only if you’re an admin for the community. Learn how to manage community admins here.
Note:
  • Events are hosted by the event creator. It’s not currently possible to have a co-host.
  • If Disappearing messages is turned on, you might not be able to create events in advance. To use the full calendar, turn Disappearing messages off.
  • You can't invite people who aren’t in the group to the event. You also can't forward an event to another chat.
  • New users can't see events created before they joined the group. To include new members, delete the event and create a new one.

Edit an event

Only event creators can edit events.
  1. Tap Communities.
  2. Tap the community, then tap the group chat.
  3. Tap the group name > Events.
  4. Tap the event > Edit event.
  5. Edit your event name, date and time, location, or description.
  6. Tap

Members who respond Going, Going with guest, or Maybe will receive a notification when you make changes to your event. A notification about your event changes will also be sent to the community group.

Cancel an event

Only event creators can cancel events.
  1. Tap Communities.
  2. Tap the community, then tap the group chat.
  3. Tap the group name > Events.
  4. Tap the event.
  5. Tap Edit event > Cancel event > Yes.
Group members who respond Going or Maybe will receive a notification when you cancel your event. There’ll also be a message in the group chat.
