How to create and customize events in community groups

You can find and join events in community groups to help organize gatherings and stay connected.
Create an event
- Click Communities.
- Click the community, then click the group chat.
- Click > Event.
- Enter an event name, time and date.
- You can also add an event description, location, call link, and end time.
- Event descriptions can be up to 2048 characters.
- WhatsApp call links can be added to events up to 1 year in advance.
- You can add links from other platforms, such as Zoom, in the event description.
- Click .
You can also create events in announcement groups, but only if you’re an admin for the community. Learn how to manage community admins.
Note:
- Events are hosted by the event creator. It’s not currently possible to have a co-host.
- If Disappearing messages is turned on, you might not be able to create events in advance. To use the full calendar, turn Disappearing messages off.
- You can't invite people who aren’t in the group to the event. You also can't forward an event to another chat.
- New users can't see events created before they joined the group. To include new members, delete the event and create a new one.
Edit an event
Only event creators can edit events.
- Click Communities.
- Click the community, then click the group chat.
- Click the group name > Events.
- Click the event > Edit event.
- Edit your event name, date and time, location, or description.
- Click .
Group members who respond Going will receive a notification when you make changes to your event. The group chat will also get a notification of your edits.
Cancel an event
Only event creators can cancel events.
- Click Communities.
- Click the community, then click the group chat.
- Click the group name > Events.
- Click the event.
- Click Edit event > Cancel event > Cancel event.
Group members who respond Going or Maybe will receive a notification when you cancel your event. There’ll also be a message in the group chat.
