How to delete chats from your phone’s WhatsApp database

Your WhatsApp chats are automatically stored in your phone’s WhatsApp database. To delete chats stored in your phone’s WhatsApp database:
  1. Launch your file manager.
  2. Tap the WhatsApp folder to view your device’s WhatsApp sub-folders.
  3. Tap and hold the Databases file > Delete.
  4. On Android 10+ the file path is: Main Storage > Android > Media > com.whatsapp > WhatsApp > Databases.
  • Once you delete a chat, it can’t be undone. WhatsApp is unable to recover deleted chats for you. You can only recover deleted chats if your latest backup occurred prior to deleting a chat. Please be aware that you’ll lose any chats that occurred after the latest backup.
  • Your chats are saved in the /sdcard/WhatsApp/Databases/ folder.
  • You can’t open these folders outside of WhatsApp.
  • You’ll need to use a file manager to delete these files.
