How to mute or unmute a contact’s status update

Status updates automatically disappear after 24 hours. If you don't want to see a specific contact's status update, you can mute their status updates so they won't appear.

Mute a contact’s status update if you follow channels

  1. Tap the Updates tab.
  2. In the Status section, swipe through to find the status update of a contact you’d like to mute.
  3. Press and hold your contact's status update > Mute.

Mute a contact’s status update if you don’t follow any channels

  1. Tap the Updates tab.
  2. Under the Status header, tap the contact’s status update. Note: If you’ve already viewed the status update, tap Viewed updates to find your contact’s status update. Then, tap the status update.
  3. While the status plays, tap
    more options
    and select Mute.
  4. Tap Mute.

To view muted contacts:

  • If you follow channels, you can see muted status updates by scrolling all the way to the right in the Status section or by tapping More options > Muted updates.
  • If you don’t follow channels, you can see muted status updates by tapping the three vertical dots in the Status header, then selecting Muted updates.

Unmute a contact’s status update if you follow channels

  1. Tap the Updates tab.
  2. In the Status section, swipe through to the end and tap Muted.
  3. Press and hold the contact's status update that you’d like to unmute > Unmute.

Unmute a contact’s status update if you don’t follow any channels

  1. Tap the Updates tab.
  2. Tap
    more options
    at the right of the Status header > Muted updates.
  3. Press and hold the name of your muted contact > Unmute.
