How to ask Meta AI in the WhatsApp search bar

You can use the WhatsApp search bar to search personal chats or send questions to Meta AI. Messages from Meta AI are generated by AI (artificial intelligence), using a technology from Meta, in response to the prompts and messages you send to the AI.
Note:
  • This feature is currently only available in limited countries and might not be available to you yet, even if other users in your country have access.
  • At this time, only English, Arabic, French, Hindi, Indonesian, Portuguese, Spanish, Tagalog, Thai, and Vietnamese are supported.
When you type into the search bar, we’ll show you results from your chats and present questions you can ask Meta AI. Content from your personal chats remains on your device. Meta doesn’t connect what you type back to you personally unless you send a prompt to Meta AI. By default, topics suggested by Meta AI are generated automatically and not based on your personal information.
You can continue to use the search functionality on WhatsApp as you normally would, to search chats for messages, photos, videos, links, GIFs, audio, polls, and documents from the search bar. Choosing to interact with Meta AI doesn’t affect your personal messaging experience on WhatsApp.

Search with Meta AI

  1. Tap the search field at the top of your Chats list.
  2. Tap a suggested prompt or type your own and tap
    send
    .
  3. As you type a prompt, you’ll see search recommendations under Ask Meta AI.
    • If prompted, read and accept the terms.
  4. Tap a search recommendation.
When you tap a search suggestion,
send
, or enter on your keyboard, you’ll be asked to acknowledge the Meta AIs Terms of Service only if you’ve never interacted with Meta AI. You’ll then be taken to a chat with Meta AI to continue the interaction. Learn how to chat with Meta AI in this article.
Note:
  • As always, your personal messages and calls remain end-to-end encrypted, meaning not even WhatsApp or Meta can see or listen to them. To learn more about AI chats and privacy on WhatsApp, read more here.
