You can hide an individual or group chat from your Chats tab by archiving it.
By default, archived chats will stay archived when you receive a new message. You can access your archive at the top of the Chats tab.
Archive an individual chat or group
- In the Chats tab, swipe left on the individual or group chat you want to archive.
- Tap Archive.
Archive all chats at once
- Go to Settings > Chats.
- Tap Archive all chats > Archive all.
View archived individual or group chats
At the top of the Chats screen, tap Archived.
Note: If you’ve archived all chats, you will see this message: “All of your chats are archived. Tap to start a new chat.” Tap Archived below this message to see your archived chats.
Unarchive an individual or group chat
You can access your archived chats and decide to unarchive a chat at any time.
- At the top of the Chats tab, tap Archived.
- Swipe left on the chat you want to unarchive.
- Tap Unarchive.
Alternatively, or if you’d like to unarchive more than one chat:
- At the top of the Chats tab, tap Archived > Edit > Select chats.
- Select the chats you'd like to unarchive, then tap Unarchive.
You can also manually unarchive a chat by searching for a contact name or message from that contact:
- In the Chats tab, tap the search bar.
- Enter the name of the chat or contact name you want to unarchive.
- Swipe left on the chat you want to unarchive.
- Tap Unarchive.
More archive settings
When you receive a new message in the archived chat, the chat remains archived by default. To automatically unarchive a chat when new messages are received:
- Go to Settings > Chats.
- Turn off Keep chats archived.
Note:
- Archiving a chat doesn’t delete the chat.
- You won't receive notifications for archived chats unless you're mentioned or replied to.
- Archived individual or group chats will unarchive when you receive a new message from that individual or group chat unless Keep Chats Archived is turned on.
- The number next to Archived shows how many individual or group chats have unread messages.
- An @ symbol shows when someone has replied to or mentioned you in an archived group chat.
