More archive settings
To change the default settings so archived chats unarchive when new messages are received:
  1. Go to WhatsApp Settings > Chats.
  2. Turn off Keep Chats Archived.
  • Archiving a chat doesn’t delete the chat or back it up to your SD card.
  • You won't receive notifications for archived chats unless you're mentioned or replied to.
  • Archived individual or group chats will unarchive when you receive a new message from that individual or group chat unless Keep Chats Archived is turned on.
  • An @ symbol shows when someone has replied to or mentioned you in an archived group chat.
  • You can archive a community group chat by tapping a community from either the Chats tab or Communities tab. Then, tap and hold a chat inside the community. Tap Archive chat. You can’t archive a whole community. If you archive all groups within a community, your community will disappear from your Chats tab.
