How to link a device with phone number

You can link a device using your primary account phone number and a one-time code. Up to four linked devices can be linked without the need to keep your primary phone connected. You'll need to log in to your primary phone every 14 days to keep linked devices connected to your WhatsApp account. For the best experience, update to the latest version of WhatsApp.
Note: This feature is currently only available on WhatsApp for Windows and WhatsApp Web.

On WhatsApp for Windows or WhatsApp Web


To begin linking a companion device using your phone number, open Whatsapp for Windows or WhatsApp Web on the device you want to link.
  1. Click Link with phone number.
  2. Select your country and enter your primary account phone number. Click Next.
  3. You'll see an 8-character code on the screen.

On your primary phone

  1. Tap the Enter code notification from WhatsApp.
  2. If prompted, unlock your primary phone:
    • If your device has biometric authentication, follow the on-screen instructions.
    • If you don't have biometric authentication enabled, you'll be prompted to enter the PIN you use to unlock your phone.
  3. Your primary phone shows the location and name of the device you're trying to link. If this is correct, tap Confirm.
  4. Unlock your primary phone again, and enter the 8-character code from your companion device on your primary phone to link your device.
Alternatively, you can directly link companion devices to your primary phone using the following steps:
  1. On your primary phone:
    • Android: Tap
      more options

    • iPhone: Go to WhatsApp Settings.
  2. Tap Linked devices > Link a device > Link with phone number instead.
  3. If prompted, unlock your primary phone:
    • If your device has biometric authentication, follow the on-screen instructions.
    • If you don't have biometric authentication enabled, you'll be prompted to enter the PIN you use to unlock your phone.
  4. Enter the 8-character code from your companion device on your primary phone to link your device.
