How to delete chats from your old phone

When you register your phone number on a new phone, you will be logged out of WhatsApp on your old phone. However, your chats will remain on the device. To help keep your chats private, you can delete your chats on your old phone.
Note: Before deleting, make sure you transfer your chats or recover your chat history from backup.

Delete chats on old phone

  1. Register your phone number on your new phone.
  2. Open WhatsApp on your old phone.
    • You’ll see “You have been logged out.”
  3. Tap Delete chats.
  4. Check the box and tap Delete chats.
