Can’t record voice messages
If you're unable to record voice messages, try these steps to fix the issue:
Check your connection
You must be connected to a Wi-Fi or cellular network to record and send voice messages. Try connecting to mobile data if you're on Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi if you're on mobile data. We also recommend restarting your phone. If you’re still having issues, contact your mobile provider for assistance.
Update WhatsApp
Make sure you’re updated to the latest version of WhatsApp on Google Play for Android and the Apple App Store for iPhone. Latest versions contain the newest features and bug fixes. Learn how to manually update WhatsApp here.
Check your phone’s proximity sensor
WhatsApp uses your phone's proximity sensor to play audio through the earpiece when you're holding your phone to your ear. However, some screen protectors and cases can disrupt this. Remove any screen protectors or cases and try recording your voice message again.
Check permissions
You can't record a voice message if WhatsApp doesn’t have permission to use your microphone. You can change this in your phone’s settings.
Check Bluetooth pairing
Your voice message might be playing on a connected Bluetooth device. If there’s no wired audio device plugged into your phone, go to your phone's settings and disable Bluetooth connectivity.
Free up storage space
You may not have enough space on your phone to record your voice message. You can free up storage space by deleting items. To check how much storage space you have available, and review and delete items, read this article.
